Every widowed parent's journey is different. That's why we offer three interconnected programs designed to provide peer connection, practical resources, and hands-on help. You can participate in one program or all three - whatever fits your needs right now.

Parent Connect is WPRP’s private online community created exclusively for widowed parents. Connect with others who understand life after loss, join supportive conversations, and access helpful resources from anywhere.

Local resources for your whole family
Parent Community helps widowed families build meaningful local connections through gatherings, trusted referrals and resources, and shared experiences with people who understand. Through local partnerships and community support, families can build lasting relationships, discover trusted local resources, and experience support closer to home.

Hands-on help when you need it most
Parent Care is WPRP’s most personalized level of support for widowed parents who would benefit from additional guidance, encouragement, and practical help. Families are paired with a trained Family Friend who provides steady connection, support, and care throughout the journey.
What Family Friends Provide
One-on-one support, meaningful connection, encouragement, advocacy, and connection to practical help that reduces everyday stress and helps families feel more supported.
Optional Support Services
Home cleaning and organization services, self-care and counseling stipends, support for children’s activities and family needs, volunteer support, and other practical resources tailored to each family’s needs.
Parent Care is currently offered to qualifying families in Knoxville and surrounding counties with dependent children through high school age who are within the first three years of loss.
Questions you might have
Absolutely. Many parents find that combining programs gives them the most comprehensive support. You might join Parent Connect for community, attend Parent Community workshops, and receive help from a Family Friend through Parent Care.
For Parent Care (our Family Friends program), yes - we currently serve Knox, Grainger, Jefferson, Blount, Anderson, Sevier, Loudon, and Union counties. Parent Connect and Parent Community are expanding nationally, with both in-person and virtual options available.
As long as you need. There's no timeline or graduation date. Some parents stay connected for months, others for years. We're here for the long haul.
That's completely fine. You can start with Parent Care for one-on-one support, attend a Parent Community event, or simply reach out when you feel ready. There's no pressure to jump into group settings.
While WPRP was founded on Christian values and many of our volunteers and participants share a Christian faith, our programs welcome widowed parents of all faiths and backgrounds. We're here to support you, wherever you are spiritually.
